We miss the playhouse we built in our old Kentucky home.
Remember how we found some extra space behind our wall and turned it into a kids dream...
BEFORE :
(literally a hole in the wall)
AFTER:
I've thought about banging holes in the walls here in search of another secret space but I'm trying to control those urges.
Instead we have named a room upstairs "the playroom".
I have 4 young kids and want that room to be magical for them but I'm still not exactly sure how I am going to do that so I decided to decorate the playroom "temporarily" in a vintage feel.
I made these fabric covered ikea magnet strips the same way my friend Traci did here.
They are perfect for displaying the kids artwork.
(I did one strip for each child)
These curtains were my first attempt at using grommets. LOVE them.
Seriously, I could not believe how easy it was and I love how they turned out... so clean looking! (I just followed the instructions that came with the grommets- which I bought at Joanns)
I am in love with Stef's (from Girl Inspired.) playroom.

Oh and my whole place is pretty much temporary. But that's because we are in an apartment. We've been here for 3 years and will probably be here for another 2-3 years and I can't stand it! So I'm finally decorating! Your painted wallpaper post is one of the things that finally pushed over the edge. So thank you. =]
ReplyDeleteThe artwork magnetic strips are genious. I believe Meg is going to grow up to be a brilliant cartoonist!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Our play room has been "waiting" for some inspiration for 2 years.. man it really really needs help! Your's looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteI tried grommets a year ago too, I was so afraid to try them before that they seemed so hard, but like you said it was really easy.
I hope you guys are doing well and staying warm!

I love the fun decorating ideas you have- and that former playroom- how totally cool is that! My first thought for your playroom now, though, would be to paint it... what about doing a little mural ( I'm not an artist, but it would be fun to paint a basic tree (with a big fluffy green cloud like top- told you I wasn't an artist..), and maybe some clouds- what about adding some vinyl words around the top, staggered even, just a thought.. but definitely a fun color(s) of paint..
ReplyDeleteMy kid's "play room" is so very sad. These are some great ideas...if I ever get around to making it more then a toy dumping ground.
ReplyDeleteI would be distraught to leave that playroom behind too! My high school Careers in Education teacher had something similar, what she called the Grandma room - a door hidden in the closet of the guest bedroom led to the attic that had been turned into a magical play place! We went there for our class one day - best class of the whole year!
ReplyDeleteOur entire house seems kind of 'temporary', because I'm too scared I'll mess something up. The only decoration in the playroom right now is wall art from when someone smuggled crayons in during nap time.
Adorable...I understand temporary...but really adorable.
ReplyDeleteI linked to your Tu-Tu Tutorial, I loved it and provided you with credit and a link back to your tutorial. I hope you do not mind...please let me know if this is wrong, or if I should credit you differently. I could not find an email address on your blog...I may be just missing it. Thanks again for your tutorial...my daughter is suprememly happy with her new Tu-Tu!!!
