Master Bedroom

It's funny how you can start out with an idea for a room but end up with something
totally different...
(since my husband does have an opinion and my budget does have a limit)
and still totally LOVE it!

My original plan for the master bedroom was to collect items of furniture separately to make it look like it had come together over time and give the room added personality.

My hubby wanted it to match.

For a bed I wanted something with curves... probably in a white or cream. I showed picture after picture to the hubster and he just shook his head. :( No go.

Then one day I walked into a furniture store I hadn't visited yet and I walked around the corner and ran into a bedroom set that took my breath away. It was made of solid mahogany and was very strong and masculine which I knew would be a great balance against the somewhat feminine painted wallpaper in our room.

But most importantly I loved it and I KNEW Trevor would love it.

When I took him to the store I purposely walked right past the set and was thrilled when he stopped right in front of it and said, "Wait! What about THIS one."
I smiled.

We looked at the price... it was too expensive but the salesman informed us that they were selling the floor model because it had a few dings in it and we could name our price and he would ask the manager. We negotiated back in forth (I left for that part... I'm not a good negotiator, it's so awkward!) and came up with an AWESOME price! Go honey!

Enough text already! Here are some pictures...

BEFORE:

AFTER:
The headboard was so high I felt it needed something so I covered a straw wreath with soft fuzzy white yarn and a sparkly snowflake broach.

I LOVE the nightstands... They hold sooo much JUNK!!!
kleenex, chapstick, books, hand lotion, list of things to do tomorrow, glasses... everything that used to clutter the table top

On the opposite wall...
Mmmmmm.

It's NOT white and it is definitely a "SET" but I love the contrast and richness of the dark wood and the cleanness/ calmness of the matching pieces.

I gave my husband a hard time for having so many opinions (that's MY job! lol) but in the end we have a beautiful space and we are both happy!

Yay for compromising with the one you love! ;) And YAY for "scratch and dent" prices making this all possible!!! haha

PS I was fighting this little guy off the whole time I was taking pictures.
He couldn't wait to jump on the bed and mess everything up.
Things don't stay clean and pretty for long around here...
and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love it all Kathryn! I especially love the painted wallpaper and the cute little boy jumping on mommy's bed because that is exactly what my kids would do!

So nice. It does look so good with the cool color of the walls. Enjoy. It's better to start off with a few scratches and dents because then you don't get so mad when the kids put more in. Our bed is a scratch and dent masterpiece.

Congrats! It is lovely!

It always kind of amazes me when I actually listen to my husband's opinions.....and he turns out to be right. Especially when it comes to something I give him NO CREDIT for, like decorating advice! Ha!!

I have to say, with the colors of your wall and your bedding choice, I think the dark wood makes a much bolder and more attractive statement than the white would have. It looks very stately and well defined. :-)

Don't you feel like you have a sanctuary? My favorite part is those nightstands with all that storage. And your wreath was brilliant.

The whole thing is a home run!

I think the wood is the PERFECT choice against that gorgeous wallpaper. A white or cream set would have blended and and might have been lost. This combo perfectly shows off both the wall and the bed. LOVE

It looks WONDERFUL Kathryn. We sold our bedroom set a few months ago and purchased a new King mattress with the money. I haven't yet found my new bedroom set. I just know that I want it to match, and I want it to be a dark brown with a solid headboard (our last set was logs, it's hard to lean up against logs and read a book). Your house looks awesome!!

Kathryn I love love love it! The set has a very rich look with clean lines. It really amazes me how it came together and Trevor, you and your pocket book are all very happy. Congratulations Mom

Kathryn, it looks great! I love the big bold size and color of the furniture, with the soft sublte colors and textures of the rest of the room! It's perfect together. I love your thinking on letting Trevor help. and now you are both happy. :)

btw...I just found out that we are related...I have been following your blog for a long time and love it, anyway, never put two and two together...
trevor's mom and my dad are first cousins. My grandparents are the ones that were married on the same day as Trevor's grandparents! We live in Syracuse, UT, but another coincidence, my husband and I both grew up living in your bil Jeff's ward. Jeff's dad was my husband's scout leader and boss for a time at Leger's market in Woods Cross. Anyway, funny how small of a world it really is!

Love those night stands! Where did you get them from? I've been searching for years for ones with 3drawers. Please let me know where they are from.
Thanks

This is a bit random... from someone you don't know, but I was wondering if you could share where you got your bed. I have to say my husband sounds like yours. I would love to find something old and paint it white with some cute mismatched nightstands... but my husband would love the dark brown set. Could you email me?! Pretty please.

PS The room is beautiful!

Your husband sounds a lot like mine! He really cares about what our house looks like and has his own opinions on that. I feel lucky to have a man that cares so much about that kinda stuff. I just have to remember that when our visions don't meet eye to eye!! HAHA!

Love it! We are working on a bedroom redo at our house and my hubby has strong opinions. (Sometimes I wish he didn't care so much!) Your space turned out beautiful. Good for you on the compromise.
